WELCOME AP INSTITUTE PARTICIPANTS!
LET US HELP YOU PLAN YOUR VISIT!

The AP Institute is held during the summer at St. Johnsbury Academy in the historic town of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. The Academy’s website has more information about the AP Institute and how to register for the program. You can also view the brochure with full information about the AP Institute.

St. Johnsbury in the summer is a wonderful place to spend a week or more. The days are warm and sunny, and the evenings are cool and comfortable. Located in northeastern Vermont, St. Johnsbury offers a wealth of activities for you to enjoy. If you bring your family with you, they will have plenty to do while you’re in the AP Institute during the day.

St. Johnsbury is a town rich in New England history, with many lovely 19th-century Victorian homes on its tree-lined streets. The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, a National Historic Landmark library and art gallery, is located just steps from the St. Johnsbury Academy campus. A couple of blocks further down Main Street is the acclaimed Fairbanks Museum, a 19th-century-style natural history museum with unparalleled collections. Near the edge of town is the world-famous Dog Chapel built by
artist Stephen Huneck. St. Johnsbury has two movie theatres – one, Catamount Arts, showing independent and international films in an intimate setting, and the other, the Star Theater, showing first-run movies. In the summer, theater productions and musical concerts of all kinds abound all over the state.

St. Johnsbury hosts a fantastic Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning all summer. Local farmers and food producers sell fruits, vegetables, baked goods, cheeses, maple products, and much more. Local artists and crafters display their merchandise there, too, as well as in the Artisan’s Guild shop downtown.

The northeast corner of Vermont is known for its pristine beauty, as well as the many outdoor sports activities you can enjoy here. There are lakes and rivers for swimming and boating; hiking, biking and running trails crisscross the magnificent countryside; horseback riding is available on many local farms; or, for something a little different, try llama trekking!
